Gears of War executive producer joins Bioshock: Infinite developer

Gears of War boss Rod Fergusson has announced his departure from Epic for Irrational Games.

The executive producer of the Gears of War franchise revealed the surprise move on Twitter.

"Yes it's true, I'm leaving my family at Epic to join my new family at Irrational in Boston starting tomorrow," he said.

"And yes I've played Infinite and it's amazing! Can't wait for you guys to get your hands on it," he added. Irrational's only known project is Bioshock: Infinite, due in early 2013. A number of key staff left Irrational Games this week.

"Very emotional farewell to [Fergusson] today. We'll love him forever and he helped us immensely," Epic co-founder and vice president Mark Rein said, tweeting an image of the farewell.

"Interwebs have my official permission to be unworried about Bioshock: Infinite now that [Fergusson] is on the job," he added.

Fergusson, along with Cliff Bleszinski, has been one of the main creative forces and public faces of Epic's Xbox 360 exclusive shooter franchise. He spent eight years as an executive producer at Epic, having started his games industry career at Microsoft, including working on Train Simulator.
