OnLive to be built into second-gen Google TV sets

A deal between OnLive and chip manufacturer Marvell will see second-generation Google TV devices capable of streaming games out-of-the-box.

Game streaming service OnLive has signed a deal with Marvell to enable devices that run on the manufacturer's ARMADA 1500 chipset to access the OnLive service.

Marvell manufactures the ARMADA 1500 chipset for smart TVs and set-top-boxes, including Google's second-generation TVs, and while OnLive's deal is not directly with Google it means the internet giant's TV devices will be capable of streaming games via the OnLive service.

"OnLive's focus is to make the highest quality gaming accessible to everyone, anywhere and anytime they want it. With Marvell under the hood, we are able to deliver the highest-quality, on-demand gaming experience on groundbreaking devices and systems like Google TV," said Steve Perlman, OnLive Founder and CEO.

Game streaming is slowly becoming more popular, with Sony recently buying OnLive competitor Gaikai for $380 million. Elsewhere, Valve recently stated that streaming is not part of its short term plans.
