Rumour - Harmonix working on a new kind of music game
Harmonix seems to be working on a motion-control music game for next generation consoles, with combat, explorable environments, and a strong narrative element.
Internet sleuth Superannuation turned up several references to the game. The first is a job ad for a software engineer which mentions "brand new IP and next-generation consoles".
The next is a for a narrative designer - suggesting the game will be more story-driven than previous Harmonix games. The ad mentions a "unique motion-gaming IP", as well as "emotionally compelling story lines that serve as the basis for game levels", "narrative worldbuilding material for the game world", and "immersive play experiences that use game mechanics, environmental design and cinematic moments to express narrative".
The next position vacant is senior content designer, apparently for the same project, which mentions that it is a "groundbreaking music game" and will feature "environments that encourage and reward player exploration, and add visual and narrative impact to gameplay".
Finally, the senior level designer will be partially responsible for "combat encounters, environmental interactions, AI behaviors, and other scripted elements".
What the actual; it sounds amazing. It seems like whatever-it-is is a good way out so don't expect an E3 reveal.
Harmonix recently announced a new downloadable game called Rock Band Blitz. The developer is also responsible for Dance Central and the core Rock Band releases.
