Hackers using unreleased on-disc Street Fighter X Tekken DLC in online play
Capcom have acknowledged that some players are using unreleased Street Fighter X Tekken characters in online play over Xbox Live via hacking the game.
Christian Svensson, the Senior Vice President of strategic planning and business development at Capcom, acknowledged fan reports of players using characters that aren't yet available on the official Capcom Unity boards.
"Yes, we're seeing news of this. Quite ballsy for folks to be taking hacked Xbox 360s on Live where they are detectable," he said, directly addressing a user question.
"In any event, we already have opened channels of communication with Microsoft on these issues Friday night. If you can capture screens or video of this in action (as some have already) we're working on bans for boxes and accounts with Microsoft for haxxors."
Svensson said he'd leave a thread open for players to report Xbox Live users who hack the game, but later closed it. "We'll catch them ourselves," he explained.
There was previously quite a fuss over the fact that all the DLC for the game was on the disc.
Capcom argued that this would eliminate the need for a hefty downloadable add-on later or another disc version of the game - but now legitimate players appear to find themselves at a disadvantage online against the total unknown of 12 characters they can't access.
The fighters won't be officially released until after the Vita version of the game. That'll be some time in Summer, but other hefty DLC updates both free and paid will be available in the meantime.
The hacks also appear to allow the PlayStation exclusive Mega Man and Pac Man to be used on 360, though InFamous' Cole and the Sony Cats, also exclusive to PS3, are not on the 360 disc. Make of that what you will.
The on-disc DLC saga continues. Thanks, EventHubs.
