Max Payne 3 "Gang Wars" multiplayer details revealed
After a brief tease yesterday, Rockstar is finally giving us a bit of info about what we can expect from the multiplayer modes in Max Payne 3. Get ready for "Gang Wars." The idea of the multiplayer in MP3 is to maintain what Rockstar calls a narrative focus. Rather than just mindlessly blasting other players, MP3 is hoping to create a more dynamic narrative in multiplayer matches.
Rounds of this mode can change based on the round that came before it. The first round may see players trying to steal bags of cash (ala capture the flag,) which could lead to the top scorer getting a bounty placed on their head. The exact number of modes hasn't been detailed (nor have many other details about the dynamic narrative.)
Objectives in each round are explained by Max in special cutscenes which Rockstar says will tie into the story of the series.
"The narrative element of Max Payne 1 and 2, and what we're doing with 3, is obviously very strong," said Charlie Bewsher, lead multiplayer designer on MP3, revealing the mode to IGN. "So when you starting thinking about the multiplayer version of Payne I think you've got to address that part of the game. But there's also a narrative unique to any multiplayer game, though - you sort of get this drama that unfolds."
Rockstar also said that players will have perks or powers that they can use during the matches. Don't worry, you wont see super powers or air strikes. These perks tend to revolve around perception. "Sneaky" for instance makes your character appear friendly to your enemies. "Paranoia" can make an enemy player unable to distinguish between friend and foe as all characters will appear to be enemies.
The multiplayer will apparently also be the main focus of the planned downloadable content.
