Miyamoto on retirement: "That is not the case"

Following last night's Wired fiasco, in which it claimed he was set to step down into partial retirement and a smaller role inside Nintendo, Shigeru Miyamoto has said he has no intentions of walking into the sunset yet.

Wired's Chris Kohler has already defended his interview today.

But Miyamoto's new comments come in a Wall Street Interview from yesterday, published today, in which the publication said Miyamoto was "very healthy and isn’t planning to retire any time soon," adding that Nintendo has in place "organization structures and a culture it thinks will be able to infuse his type of thoughtful yet fun designs into its products long after he is gone

The Nintendo dev legend said: "We have to construct the structure so that the organization so that it can make it without me.

"I should also admit that it might be better without me; I mean that a different approach and different talent might emerge, though I shouldn’t dwell on this because then the article might indeed say ‘Mr. Miyamoto is thinking about retiring,’ because that is not the case."

One thing he does say that coincides with his interview on Wired is his aim to have more of a focus on smaller projects which could grow into, according to the publication through Miyamoto's words, "bigger games as time goes on."
