NFS: The Run assets introduce you to the Million Dollar Highway
EA has released new screenshots showing of the Million Dollar Highway in Need for Speed: The Run. Also known as Route 550, the road is a spur route of Highway 50 which stretches from Bernalillo, New Mexico to Montrose, Colorado in the US.
The 25 miles section which runs from Silverton to Ouray in Colorado, is the part of it which is called the Million Dollar Highway, but in actuality, it is the 12 twelve miles running through the Uncompahgre Gorge to Red Mountain Pass's summit which gave the highway its moniker.
As you can see in the shots below, just as in real-life, this stretch of road through the gorge has many steep cliffs, contains two narrow lanes, no guardrails at certain points, and as the driver ascends Red Mountain Pass (which is drop dead gorgeous), they will come face-to-face with "S" curves engineered to allow better elevation. While the road is scary as hell to drive even at a snails pace like I did, imagine driving it at top speed like you will in the game, as your car comes into direct contact with the sides of mountains. Makes your eyes water just thinking about it.
A video featuring the Million Dollar Highway is posted below as well.
NFS: The Run will be made available on 3DS, PC, PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360 on November 17. A demo is to be released by EA for PS3 and 360 on October 18 and will be available until November 1.
