Bullet Time: Sold-out Call of Duty XP event detail blowout
The first live Call of Duty XP event takes place in LA today and tomorrow. The action kicks off at 11AM PDT/7PM BST/4AM AEST, and we've put together a round-up of what you can expect to see over the two-day event.
Call of Duty XP, the sold-out live event that is set to blow the trumpet for all things CoD-based, starts today. We've put together a run-down of what you can expect, when. There's live feeds, Call of Duty Elite details, competitions, public hands-on time with Modern Warfare 3 and - no, let me finish, man - Kanye West.
Of course, Call of Duty XP could not be considered a sold-out event unless Activision had actually sold all of the tickets, that's just how it works, and so the publishing giant will have been delighted - and a little relieved - that yesterday it did just that, as noted by Shack.
The event will host 6,000 fans over the two-day event and will be the first public unveiling of the multiplayer elements of Modern Warfare 3, attendees will get to see it action before playing it for themselves.
However, if you're not one of the 6,000 CoD fans who stumped up $150 to attend the party in LA, you can still steal a peek at proceedings through the magic-window of the internet. The event will be streaming live via both theCall of Duty XP website and a dedicated Facebook app.
Plus, there's a live blog to accompany the action if you'd like to read-all-about-it as it happens. The full schedule of events for both days is conveniently outlined for you so you can plan your viewing around less important things like eating, drinking and bathroom breaks.
Live musical performances will be provided by Dropkick Murphys - "known for their complex distillation of classic punk rock, Celtic folk and American rock'n'roll," it says here - who will perform on the opening night at 8pm PDT, whilst Mr Kanye West will be wrap-up the event at 8pm PDT on Saturday.
Two monster give-aways have been confirmed for the event: a redemption code for afree copy of the Hardened edition of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 will be presented to each and every attendee. Plus, 32 four-player teams will compete for $1 million in cash and prizes in a single-elimination tournament - you can track the progress of the tournament ladder , and you can also can expect details of many of the matches to be shown via the live stream.
Finally, to get primed for the two-day bonanza, why not take a trip with Robert Bowling as he presents an event walk-through and if you want to read some words on my time with the game from a little earlier in the year, then nip over to the hands-on impressions for a look-see, in which I label CoD a niche franchise much to the consternation of many.
Call of Duty XP takes place Friday 2 and Saturday 3 September, all ticket sales benefit the Call of Duty Endowment, a charitable cause for army veterans.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 launches worldwide on November 8, expect queues.
