Gamefly announces digital distribution service

Game rental service Gamefly has announced it will launch a digital distribution portal for Mac and PC games.

Shack News - itself a subsidiary of Gamefly - reports that the portal will handle more than straight sales. Gamefly subscribers will be granted all-you-can-eat access to a collection of games through a service called Unlimited PC Play.

The service, which seems to go under the same name as the rental side of things, will have a number of community features including persistant identities, the creation and sharing of games libraries, and in-client news and updates.

Gamefly goes into beta in early September, and current rental subscribers will get first whack at it. The service is expected in the UK and US during the holiday season.

Earlier this year, Gamefly purchased Direct2Drive, formerly part of IGN's network.
