Confirmed – PSN partially returning tomorrow in Asia

PSN and Qriocity will finally make a return, albeit partially, in Japan, as well as other countries, on Saturday, Sony's confirmed this morning

The company says that the service will return in stages in five countries - Thailand, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia - as well as Japan tomorrow.

The services to return are:

  • Sign-in and password change for PSN and Qriocity
  • Friends List
  • PS3 and PSP online play
  • PlayStation Home
  • Torne

The Welcome Back pack for the continent includes the choice of two games from a list of five for both PS3 and PSP. For PS3, it's this lot:

  • Hustle King
  • Loco Roco: Cocoreccho
  • Echochrome
  • Wipeout HD
  • The Last Guy

And on PSP, choose two from these:

  • What Did I Do To Deserve This, My Lord 2
  • Minna no Sukkiri
  • Patapon 2
  • LittleBigPlanet PSP
  • LocoRoco: Midnight Carnival

PSN was partially restored in the US, Europe and other parts of the world earlier this month following an external intrusion in April which seen the service go down, as well as personal data from 77 million PSN users compromised.

But the network didn't return in Japan due to METI - The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry - being unsatisfied that Sony had not met targets it had set out after bringing back most of its features in the west.

A further report a couple of days later stated that METI and credit card companies in Japan were looking for Sony to fully detail its security plans for PSN following the intrusion.

Thanks, Andriasang.
