Next Soulcalibur won't be Siegfried-centric
Soulcalibur director Daishi Odashima has revealed the upcoming new entry in the weapons-based fighting series will oust Siegfried from prime position.
Siliconera put together a number of tweets from the Namco Bandai staffer, which reveal the new game will not be centred on Siegfried.
"The main character for the new game will not be Siegfried. ... All I can say is he/she will be deeply involved with the two swords," Odashima said.
The armoured knight is considered the protagonist of the series by many fans, although not universally.
The unrevealed new game has been favoured with a budget increase, the director confirmed.
"My recent work is to get a higher budget for the game from the company!" he said.
Although the Soulcalibur franchise has gone under the mainstream radar to some extent, it has a cult following among hardcore fighter fans.
Following an online petition which drew attention of Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada, Namco Bandai green-lit a new entry in the series, but has not yet formally unveiled it.
