Rumour: Sony prepping new PS3 SKU to combat hackers
Rumours suggest Sony may be working up to the release of a new, "hack-proof" PlayStation 3 model.
An anonymous source told Everything HQ Sony is "already deep into plans" for a new SKU in response to the recent leak of Killzone 3 to torrent sites, in the wake of the system's root key publication and subsequent custom firmware.
The new, Slim-style model will allegedly feature a 300 GB hard drive and a price tag of £186.99.
Recent retailer discounts in some territories have fuelled speculation that Sony is planning an official price drop on PS3 hardware, which Everything HQ suggests may be an effort to clear existing, hackable stock - although putting a bunch of cheap, hackable consoles into consumer hands doesn't seem the wisest counter-piracy strategy.
