Rumour: PS Phone to be announced on December 9

According to a report from French website Nowereelse.fr, Sony is set to announce the much-rumoured PS Phone on Thursday, December 9.

The site is carrying a supposed invite to the reveal, which is, according to the translated French (via PocketGamer), "The most awaited event of the past 10 years."

MobileCrunch has said the event is geniune.

MC's also carrying more details about the phone, such as the retina display being "mindblowing" and "on-par" with the same tech in Apple's iPhone.

It won't be out in time for Christmas - naturally - with a February release being aimed at by Sony Ericsson, roughly around the same time as the Mobile World Congress.

The company is also thought to be releasing the device under the Xperia brand, not PlayStation, and that games for the device will be "sub-$10", not "sub-$40".

Rumours of a PSPhone emerged last month from Engadget, with specs, info and pictures. It was claimed the info and pictures were fake by Sony before the statement was retracted.

The phone is meant to run from PSP1 tech, according to VG247 sources, and is codenamed Zeus: something MobileCrunch claims is still the case, with Sony Ericsson calling it "the Z-System".

Sony Ericcson CEO Bert Nordberg hinted at its existance earlier this week.

"There’s a lot of smoke, and I tell you there must be a fire somewhere," he told the WSJ.
