Harmonix: "Potential for Dance Central quite big"

Harmonix VP of production Tracy Rosenthal-Newsom has said she believes the initial cost of buying Kinect to play Dance Central won't put people off.

Speaking in an interview with Gamasutra, Newsom said that although people will have to shell out for Kinect, a copy of the game and possibly even an Xbox 360, she still thinks Dance Central will be a hit.

"I think the potential for Dance Central is actually quite big," said Newsom.

"I think there's a lot of power in this [Kinect] technology, there's a lot of opportunity for physical gaming and other kinds of games. All of us at Harmonix are excited."

Dance games have certainly found an audience with Dance Dance Revolution and Just Dance both selling well, something Newsom thinks Harmonix can replicate.

"I think we've learned a lot about what it means to create performance games, and how to really give the player this feeling -- that illusion of 'awesomeness' -- and what you need to build in your game to help the player have that emotional feeling."

Dance Central is released this November as part of the Kinect launch line-up.
