3DS: Nintendo brands this-quarter release talk "Chinese whispers"

Following apparent confirmation to Bloomberg that Nintendo will release 3DS in Japan this quarter, Nintendo has branded the talk "Chinese whispers".

Earlier today it was confirmed that Nintendo will announce 3DS's date and pricing plans on September 29.

"No - we've not announced anything to Bloomberg or anyone else," Nintendo told VG247 in response to the story, which was picked up by Gamespot.

"It's just speculation. It might be a case of Chinese whispers, as we have confirmed to Bloomberg there will be an event on the September 29 in Japan where we intend to discuss launch timings, price and shipment details."

Nothing has been announced on the console's price since its E3 reveal, although NoA boss Reggie Fils-Aime has said it'll be out in all major regions by the end of March 2011.

We were told last week that the handheld was set to release in the UK in March.

The announcement will be a separate event from Toyko Game Show, which takes place from September 16-19.

Publishers and developers alike are going mental for the machine: EA COO John Schappert said the tech will "sell like hot cakes", while Japanese developers like Capcom's Keiji Inafune and Konami's Hideo Kojima are said to be having their main teams at work on it, according to Shigeru Miyamoto.

Inafune's gone properly gaga over it too.

"Video games need three things to be successful: a concept, a technology platform, and good marketing. The Nintendo 3DS is a perfect example of those three things bundled into one," he said.

3DS also won the Best of Show award at E3.
