F.E.A.R. 3 to have "divergent co-op" and possession abilities
F.E.A.R. 3 was formally announced last week, and Day 1 Studios has revealed in the latest issue of Game Informer some of the gameplay mechanics surrounding co-op and the abilities you can harness in the game.
Something new to the series is "divergent co-op," which Day 1 Studios describes as a type of "adversarial co-op" where players will be able to control either Point Man or Fettel, who's an enemy.
Fettel can assist Point Man, yet players can decide to do their own thing as well without helping the other out. He will also have powers like stun blast, and the ability to possess another enemy.
Point Man will remain your typical soldier, and Day 1 is developing a first-person cover system for the character.
A scoring system, as well as a system similar to the Left 4 Dead Director, will be implemented along with competitive multiplayer and a single-player element for those who want to fight Alma all by their lonesome.
In single-player, Fettel will only show up in cutscenes.
F.E.A.R. 3 is scheduled to launch this fall and John Carpenter is consulting on it.
